Sustainability at the Crescent Shopping Centre

The Crescent Shopping Centre is fully committed to the sustainable use of energy.  In recent years we have undertaken a number of sustainability projects to ensure our carbon footprint is reduced with a number of future initiatives in the pipeline also.

Current sustainable initiatives include;

LED Lights

The Centre is committed to introducing LED lighting across all internal and external areas within the Crescent Shopping Centre between now and 2023 thus reducing our demand on energy and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

The Crescent Shopping Centre now proudly utilises LED lighting in up to 70% of lighting fixtures at the Centre, with a commitment to increase this to 100% by 2023.

All Christmas decoration displays in recent years have included LED lighting only.

BUS SERVICE

The Centre is serviced by Bus Eireann and also has ample Bus Parking at the Centre to allow for customers to travel to the centre by public transport or travel together in larger groups therefore reducing the number of cars frequenting the centre.

The following bus routes service the station – 304 and 301 Bus Routes

CYCLIST FRIENDLY

The Centre encourages shoppers to travels to the Centre by bike or foot – providing multiple locations at most entrances for bike parking including bike racks and covered bike shelters close to all main entrances to the Centre.    The Crescent Shopping Centre is working in conjunction with Limerick County Council currently to prepare the area surrounding the centre to facilitate bicycle lanes on roads leading in and out of the centre to Limerick city.

DISPOSAL OF CENTRE WASTE

Our disposal waste partners Mr. Binman are committed to the responsible disposal of waste on behalf of the Crescent Shopping Centre.

Mr Binman is certified to the latest ISO14001 Accreditation in Environment and is also independently audited under ISO9001 Quality and OHSAS18001 Health & Safety.

Mr Binman have invested in a number of technologies such as pay-by-weight and diversion of waste from landfill.  Their efforts towards recycling have been recognised nationally in the awarding of the Repak Recovery Operator of the year award on three occasions.

They also are a main supporter of “Clean Up Limerick”, a county recycling initiative and Crescent Shopping Centre also plays its part in this recycling initiative.
