Kate Healy, a dedicated therapist at St. Gabriel’s Foundation and an experienced rower, is set to undertake a remarkable 24-hour rowing challenge to raise funds for an Innowalk device. This equipment enables children in wheelchairs to experience dynamic movement, significantly enhancing their quality of life.
Event Details:
- Date & Time: From 11 AM on Friday, November 29th, to 11 AM on Saturday, November 30th, 2024.
- Location: Atrium of Crescent Shopping Centre, Limerick.
About the Challenge:
Kate aims to become the first Irish female rower aged 20-29 to row continuously for 24 hours, potentially setting Irish, European, and World Records. Her motivation stems from her dual passions for rowing and supporting children with complex physical needs.
The Innowalk Device:
The Innowalk is an innovative dynamic stander that allows children with significant physical disabilities to stand, move, and walk independently. Benefits include improved circulation, increased muscle strength, enhanced digestion, and greater independence. Feedback from children who trialled the Innowalk at St. Gabriel’s Foundation has been overwhelmingly positive, with reports of better sleep, reduced pain, and the joy of independent movement.
